Zeitoun

Zeitoun is a very hardworking man. He is a person that came from nothing and became very well established having many different businesses to support him and his family. However Zeitoun does posses many good qualities but on the down side he is very stubborn. There is a storm that is going to hit which starts off as a category one but later progresses to a category five. He ignores all the warnings from his wife colleagues and radio. He feels that he has endured many storms in his life and that this particular storm is being made much more then what it is. Zeitoun posses traits of a tragic hero choosing to avoid the warnings he is not only putting himself in danger but his family and business.

Anitgone

Antigone defies the laws of her nation and her ruler. In the story of Antigone, there are two conflicting views- Creon's insistence on upholding human law and Antigone's determination to uphold divine law. Throughout the drama, each character is acting upon what he/she believes is morally correct. I sympathize with Antigone because religion overrules everything in her life. She stands by these convictions to her death, forever faithful to her religious beliefs even if that means burying her brother.

We are using this image to portray Electra because this characters' traits are much like hers. Electra doesn't get attention from her mother or Agamemnon. They don’t give her new pairs of clothing or clean her. She is much like a prisoner in a cell who is trying to escape. Bellatrix clearly portrays Electra's treatment in this image. Electra is seen as a crazy woman. Bellatrix's hair makes her look a little insane as well as her clothes that are old and dirty. Even her stance which shows that she has attitude. She looks like a dirty servant but one with pride. This connects to Electra because she was treated awful by Agamemnon and her mother yet she still has pride in her Father, and stands firmly in what she believes in even after his death.

Greek tragedy is like a form of art and it is designed to hold a mirror in society. People will always have the same flaws, the same desires, the same outcomes.I chose to speak about Cassandra

Cassandra, was a daughter of Hecuba and King Priam, the rulers of Troy during the Trojan War according to Homer's Iliad. Cassandra was a beautiful young woman, blessed with the gift of prophecy by Apollo, who was infatuated with her. Cassandra has always been misunderstood and misinterpreted as a madwoman or crazy doomsday prophetess. Shakespeare presented her as a madwoman ranting and raving along the walls of Troy in his play Troilus and Cressida. More importantly, her own people and family in Troy mistook her as a raving lunatic. She has always been shown in paintings with her long hair flying around her shoulders in what has been considered lunatic fashion, scantily clad, and helpless on her knees in the face of her predicted doom. But there is so much more to Cassandra than her maddened predictions and pitiable treatment. Cassandra was a great, intelligent heroine who was cursed by the gods for not playing by their rules. She is a tragic figure, not a madwoman.

 I found an article about a school that acted out the play Laramie Project. Some of the children had never heard of the story but were enlightened and truly moved by it. This article tried to portray that people might not share the same beliefs on gay rights but everyone should be tolerant and accepting towards each others. I think with this being said that there has been some progress throughout the years on discrimination against one another.

Presidential Debate

While watching the debate there are things I agreed with from both parties. One thing that Obama said that was reassuring was that the basic structure of the social security system was sound. Obama spoke about Medicare and what an important role that played in his grandmothers life and how all senior citizens should be entitled to Medicare.  One thing that the Romney said that I didn’t agree with is that there would be no change made in current retires to Medicare which  I don’t think is fair to senior citizens. Another thing I liked about Obama was that he purposed a plan will cut the deficit by 3.8 trillion costs. Rodney purposed the idea of keeping costs for colleges low which I think is great it will give more people a chance to better their education.  I think both parties had good arguments and good plans but at the end of the day Obama will have my vote.

The Laramie Project

            The Laramie Project is about the tragic murder of Matthew Shepard, who was killed in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998 because of his sexual orientation. Since it first premiered in 1999, The Laramie Project has caught the attention of plays at high schools, colleges, and professional theaters across the nation. While reading the play there were two characters that caught my attention but had very different views on  Matthew Sheppard's death.

Matt Galloway was the Bartender at the Fireside who seems to take on the role of the bystander that failed to act but was a key witness in this case.  He was bar tending the night of Sheppard's murder and described him as polite and intelligent. He said he was just enjoying his drinks and wasn’t looking around for attention. Later in the night Sheppard's murders came in and said they were rude and broke paying for their drinks in quarters and dimes. However they stated that Matt had approached them and came on to them which Galloway didn’t believe for a second. “ Why would he approach them Why them? He wasn’t approaching anyone else in the bar. They say hes gay, he was a flaming gay, he’s gonna come on to people like that. Bullshit. He never came on to me. Hello?? He came on to them? I don’t believe it.” (Kaufman108) Galloway was an honest man who could have cared less of Sheppard's sexual orientation but deeply sympathized for the horrible gruesome death he endured. Galloway was certain that the two men were responsible for this. 

The Baptist  Minister wasn’t accepting of Sheppard's lifestyle and had very strict views on people that were gay. He believes that the Bible states that homosexuality is wrong. He stated “ I know the lifestyle is legal, but I will tell you one thing: I hope that Matthhew Sheppard as he was tied to that fence, that he had time to reflect on a moment when someone had spoken the word of the Lord to him- and that before he slipped into coma he has a chance to reflect on his lifestyle”.(Kaufman127) The Baptist minister didn’t hold back whatsoever in expressing his beliefs and another reason I think he felt so strongly on anti gay rights  were due to the beliefs he practiced in church.

The two people that I have mentioned have completely different views on his death but in the end what happened to Matthew Sheppard was a complete tragedy.  In today’s society The Laramie Project shows us not only how far we've come, but how far we have still to go in the fight for true equality.

Animal Farm-Final Draft

Dearest Animal Farm,

I hope by me taking the time to write this letter  gives  you the closure you all have been looking for deserve and have  a better understanding of why the revolution took place. Of course, we can identify and debate on events and actions that made the farm crumble and what had caused it to erupt. However, we can also identify characters responsible for the chaos on the Animal Farm. My purpose is to demonstrate the fault in the system itself. But I’m writing this letter not to  blame any  individual character for the failure of the revolution but just to make you aware of what you could have done to have prevented it

.All animals were to blame, some just more than others. For example, Boxer  continuously remained sincere hard worker but was simple minded and was not completely educated. Mollie continued to be interested only in personal comforts and had other interests than taking part and rebelling against the pigs. Benjamin preferred not to express  any of his views or opinions, which was unfortunate because with all the wisdom he obtained he never acted on it. If all the animals would have worked together and would have always had a voice and would have  demanded changes I feel that the revolution could have been saved. For instance, when Napoleon loses sight of what his obligations are to the animals on the farm then he becomes a dictator. But the animals are also partially responsible for their fate because they ignore the signs that indicate how dangerous Napoleon is. For example, the animals blindly believe Napoleon when he explains that Snowball is a traitor. The other animals blindly follow Napoleon's lead without question.

"ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS"- Orwell,.82 This quote stuck out to me more then the rest because the pigs were trying to convey that all animals are not really created equal because the pigs were better ("more equal") than the rest of the animals. " Originally they agreed with Old  Majors claim that all animals were equal but when he passed the pigs gained the control and felt they were superior to everyone else. What has happened here is that the pigs have elevated themselves to the position of their former masters, they now see themselves as superior, not equal, to the other animals. The idea of "more equal" is just silly propaganda meant to keep the "lower nature" animals dominated so they don't get the idea into their heads to overthrow their new leaders the same way that their new leaders overthrew their former masters, the humans. Napolean and the other pigs changed the rules to suit them as they began to look down on the other animals and consider themselves to be equal to humans - and they even started acting like humans. And at the end of the book, as the other animals looked around the table at the pigs' faces and the human faces, they couldn't tell the difference between them.

I hope this gives everyone a better understanding and in the future will be more cautious in whom they choose to rule and take control of the farm. If everyone was more communicative with all each other and willing to put in the effort to work together this could have all been avoided. I hope this letter finds you all well and in good spirits and  how each and everyone of you have the power to rebuild your society. Best Wishes!
