Zeitoun
From what I’ve read so far Zeitoun
come off as someone who is strong, wise, ambitious, kind, loving and a hard
worker. I see his love for his wife, his kids and his community. Zeitoun grew
up as a hard worker which he embodies from his father traits. Zeitoun is a hero
because he helps family out every day by fixing any problems in their house
that needs to be fixed. He goes above and beyond just to make sure that he’s
jobs gets complete without any breaks, he’s everyone hero. Somehow, Zeitoun can
come off as very stubborn but not so much as Creon. He knew that the storm
Katrina was coming and his wife insisted that they leave home but Zeitoun did
not want to leave. When Zeitoun and his wife would talk on the phone she would
bring up the storm Katrina, Zeitoun would either change the subject of their
conversation or just dismiss it completely. In the mindset of Zeitoun, he’s
thinking how can he leave his home when there are so many things that need to be
done and so much people depending on him. His stubbornness already got him in
trouble with his wife. She had left him one time to go to Florida with the
kids. Zeitoun didn’t believe she would actually leave but when he saw her
packing the car with luggage’s and the kids already strap in he knew she was
serious. Zeitoun decision off being stubborn and avoiding the warning can cost
him his life and the life of his wife and kids.
Antigone
Creon and Antigone both have two different ideas of law and
justice. They both strongly agree and stand firm in what they believe in. Creon’s
justice is mainly about the law and the state. “But whoever shows by word and deed that he is
on the side of the state,- he shall have my respect while he is living, and my reverence
when he is dead” (Antigone 193). Creon depends on obedience & see’s the
earth as a political place. He also believes that the state is king. “My voice
is the one voice giving order in this city” (Antigone 215). Creon shows that
nothing else matters to him but law of the state and the power that he upholds.
Antigone on the other sees justice as love. Antigone is more
so about fighting for the one she loves. “It is my nature to join in love, not
hate” (Antigone 206). I would consider Antigone more of a protector. She
welcomes and respects the dead. She sees the earth as a she would see her family.
Antigone laws and justice lies in fighting for what is right and fighting for
the love of her family and love one.
Barack Obama 44th President
I already had my mind made up that Barack Obama was going to
win the Presidential election. He did his part with persuading the people as to
why they should re-elect him as president. President Obama had shown himself to
be strong and full of courage even when the odd seems to be against him. I was
at home with my family when the election was going on. At first we got nervous
because we saw Obama falling short in numbers but then when we heard he was
re-elected to do another term as president we was all happy. For the next four
years I believe that the economy will start to improve and business would start
booming again. I wish President Barack Obama nothing but the best of luck.

Image for Electra- Lambrini, Brian, Renetta, Chloe
We are using this image to portray Electra because this
characters' traits are much like hers. Electra doesn't get attention from her
mother or Agamemnon. They don’t give her new pairs of clothing or clean her.
She is much like a prisoner in a cell who is trying to escape. Bellatrix clearly portrays Electra's treatment in this image. Electra is seen as a crazy woman. Bellatrix's hair makes her look a little insane as well as her clothes that are old and dirty. Even her stance which shows that she has attitude. She looks like a dirty servant but one with pride. This connects to Electra because she was treated awful by Agamemnon and her mother yet she still has pride in her Father, and stands firmly in what she believes in even after his death.
Story of Oedipus
Oedipus was another great interesting story. King Laius (Oedipus
father) was told that his son would kill him so to avoid that he abandoned Oedipus.
It even states that he nailed Oedipus feet together. Oedipus survived the abandonment
and was later crown prince of Corinth, his named meant “swollen feet”. Years
later, without Oedipus knowing the truth about himself, he bumped into his father on
the road and killed him. There is so much more to tell about the story of Oedipus. If you want to read about the extra details you can go to …
Tiresias Greek Mythology
Tiresias was a blind prophet. It was said that he encounter with two snakes mating and he hit them with a stick. That’s how Tiresias changed into
a woman. Tiresias was then married and had kids. This article also states that “After
seven years as a woman, Tiresias again found mating snakes, struck them with
her staff, and became a man once more”. Tiresias was then later ask to choose
what sex he wants to be either a male which Hera stood by or a Female
which Zeus stood by. When Tiresias sided with Zeus, Hera got mad and
struck Tiresias blind. This is such an interesting story here is the website
that help me to understand the background of Tiresias more.

Final Presidential Debate
I really admire how Obama stands firm
on what his original goal is. Obama wants to continue to rebuild American. He
states “the administration had made great progress digging out of the hole
caused by the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression in the 1930s”. Obama
came into the White house under former president George Bush administration
trying to restore things back in good grounds. I also admire how Obama points
out things he must do and know that everything is not perfect. Obama acknowledges
there are more things that need to be done but it can’t possible be fulfill in
the few years he had. On a personal
aspect, I felt like his body language had confident written all over him. I can’t
wait to see the end result of this election.

Boys Don't Cry
Part I: Boys
Don’t Cry Is a powerful movie that shows the struggles of an individual
trying to find her sexual identity. The violence that took place at the end of
Teena Brandon story was inexcusable. Teena Brandon was raped and beaten by two
mentally sick guys. John Lotter and Tom Nissen dragged Brandon off in their car
to a quiet spot near the meat-packing place where Lana worked. There, John and
Tom repeatedly beat on Brandon and raped her vaginally and anally. Brandon then
reported the incident to the police after told not to say anything by John and
Tom or else she would be silence forever. Three days later Brandon was hiding
out at the home of Candace because of the fear of going back to Lana house. John
and Tom walk in the house looking for both Brandon and Candace. After they were
both found, they were shot and killed on the spot. These people didn't grow up
with much. All they did was smoke, drink and just walk around their block. Everyone
on block knew and grew up with each other because of how small their community was. Living
in a community like this you only know how to do the things you grew up
learning.
Part II: Plato’s
Allegory of the Cave is a great way
to identify the characters in Boys Don’t Cry.
It was very much relatable. I believe that Brandon is one that sees his
reflection and the reflection of others. Brandon had goals; he wanted to do
more with his life. He also saw the reflection of Lana, he believe that Lana was
able to do whatever it is that she wanted to do even if that meant singing karaoke
to earn money. Tom and John are the ones that are stuck in the cave. They only
did things they knew how to do which was drink, smoke and put their life to
waste. Lana’s mother was also one who will remain in the cave, she didn't have
any moral values for her family. As long as she had her drinks and cigarettes
she was fine. Lana’s mom didn't care much about what her daughter was doing. She
allowed things to go on in her house that shouldn't have been done; like
allowing John to give his daughter alcohol to drink. Plato’s state that when
you walk and look towards the light, he will suffer sharp pain, I thought that
statement related to Brandon because he took the chance and walk towards the light.
Having Brandon walked through that light caused him to face terrible pain. Plato describe communication as something difficult especially when one already have a mindset that is set on their own theory . It is hard to communicate with someone on a lower level; it will be hard for them to understand the point that's trying to get across.

VP DEBATE
This Vice president
Debate had a different energy. It was more insightful than the Presidential debate.
In this debate you were able to hear and understand the point of view of each
speaker. Each speaker shared their thoughts more clear and precise. Someone
like me who didn't know as much about the things that are happening in the
country, was able to understand what each speaker was saying.
I’m
pushing more towards Vice President Biden because of how confident he was and
how strong he came out on getting his point across. I like how Vice president
Biden specifically point out that before Governor Romney knew the
facts that our ambassador was killed, he was out making a political statement
which was panned by the media around the world. I also admire how Biden compliments
President Obama doings; he did a well enough job representing the president and
pointing out important information about the several good things President
Obama did in helping this country to be successful. Vice President Biden states
that President Obama “Is a president who’s gone out and done everything he has
said he was going to do. This is a guy who’s repaired our alliances so the rest
of the world follows us again. This is the guy who brought the entire world,
including Russia and China, to bring about the most devastating efforts on Iran
to make sure that they in fact stop".

Research Paper: Article related to The Larmaie Project
After watching
the ending to “Laramie Project” the class was discussing about another movie
called “Boys Don’t Cry” and the way it was describe in class had me interesting
in doing my research on that story. Boys Don’t Cry is a true story about a girl
named Teena Marie Brandon who struggle with identity crisis, she later began to
call herself Brandon Teena. Brandon later starting posing herself as a guy,
after getting charge with a felony she moved to Richardson County to live with
her girlfriend who thought she was a guy. Long story short rumors started spreading
that she was a girl. Two other males took Brandon to the bathroom and exposed
her. The two males felt that they should show Brandon a lesson for making them
think she was a girl so they decided to take Brandon in their car, drive to a
country road and brutally beat and rape her. The two guys warn Brandon not to
say anything or else they would kill her. Brandon reported the incident to the
police, a couple days later Brandon got shot by the same two guys who beat and
rape her.
I
used this article to help me find out more information about Teena Brandon.

Presidential Debate: Domestic Policy
While watching the
Presidential Debate tonight on domestic policy i saw a few things that i did
like and some things I didn't like.
- I like how President Obama was speaking on behalf of the
middle class, saying that he would cut their taxes so that they would be able
to save more money to spend on things they need like a car or a computer for
their child to go to school and with the spending of money it will help stores
to produce more. Obama also state that he would also raise new programs which will raise new standards for schools and teachers and with that more
science and math teacher will be hired.
- I didn't like how Romney said that he would cut out after
school programs, get rid of the Obama care plan, get rid of PBS and much more.
Romney stated "Some of these things, like those endowment efforts and PBS
I very much appreciate and like what they do in many cases, but I just think
they have to stand on their own rather than receiving money borrowed from other
countries, as our government does their behalf". Even though i disagree with some of the things Romney said i do commend him on being very aggressive and sharp with his comebacks to President Obama tactics.

The Larmamie Project Essay
“The Laramie Project” is a very powerful play written by
Moises Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project. This play takes the
audience and readers through the dramatic time period of the brutal death of
Matthew Shepard. This play not only affects the lives of individuals but also
the culture at large. Matthew Shepard lived in Laramie, Wyoming and was described
as someone who was blunt, he had an incredible beaming smile and he was very like-able because he was always straight forward with people. With that said he was very
open with his homosexuality and was one of the few students who came out at the
University of Wyoming. Everyone in the town of Wyoming had their own personal
view on the death of Matthew Shepard, some believe that he should of die and
others believe it wasn't fair and he shouldn't have died at all.
The Baptist minister
was a strong bible believer and had very strict views on homosexuality. He highly
disagrees with the lifestyle of Matthew Shepard or any homosexual person in general. The Baptist
minister wasn't at all afraid to share his views. During a sermon he states
that “the word is either sufficient or it is not” (Kaufman 25). This means that it’s either
what the bible say or its nothing at all, it’s like your word against Gods word
and Gods word is more than enough. There was a part in the play where the Baptist
minister says “I hope that Matthew Shepard as he was tied to that fence, that
he had time to reflect on a moment when someone had spoken the word of the Lord
to him” (Kaufman 69). That statement itself shows how much he was against the
lifestyle of Matthew Shepard and much he didn't care about the tragedy that
happened to him but only care about his religious view.
Reggie Fluty,
the police women who responded to the 911 call and discovered Matthew at the
fence was very disgusted by the view that she had seen of Matthew body. She couldn't believe that someone could have been beating and treated that way. Her heart
really goes out to Matthew. The way she describe the scene was so descriptive. She
started off first by saying “I could see partially somebody feet, and I got out
of my vehicle and raced over- I seen what appeared to be a young man, thirteen,
fourteen years old because he was tiny laying back and he was laying on his
back and he was tied to the bottom end of a pole” (Kaufman 36). Reggie Fluty
said there was an overwhelming amount of blood and she had many open cuts and
Matthew had HIV (Kaufman 53). Reggie was exposed to the HIV but still she never
hated Matthew or never blamed him for the cause of anything. This shows Reggie
character, how humble, brave, loving, kind and just she is.
Both
character had two different points of view on the death of Matthew Shepard. One
opposed homosexuality and was for homosexuality. The Baptist Minister appears
to be culturally produced; his culture and religion shaped him into the person
he is today. He live only based on religious views. He was trained and taught
as a little child to believe one thing and that one thing shall stick with him
forever. On the other hand Reggie Fluty was ore so innate because she just
naturally has a good heart and no one can really train and teach your heart
what to do. She believe that Matthew did not deserve to die that way, she was
humble and caring even after she found out that she was exposed to HIV from
Matthew.
Animal Farm letter Revise
Dear Animal Farm,
With great pleasure I commend you for taking a stand against the wrong
doing of Mr. Jones. I also commend you for a successful turn out from the
rebellion but I do not commend you for the failure of the revolution. Everyone
that took part in rebuilding Animal Farm is to blame, but my biggest finger
points towards Napoleon. Napoleon was the key factor to the disgusting failure
of the revolution with all his manipulation, lies, deception, subterfuge and
selfish ways. Instead of becoming a good leader, he became one who contradicts
himself by going against his own words in the beginning to gain human
advantages. Also the change of the commandments and the fact that Napoleon
allowed other animals to remain uneducated was another reason why the
revolution was a failure.
Napoleon you were very wise and clever but your cleverness did not get you far in making the revolution successful, instead your cleverness made the revolution a failure. You and the other pigs spent three month learning how to read and write using old spelling books which belonged to Mr. Jones children (Orwell 23). You took advantage of the other animals like the dogs and caused them to cling to you. You manipulated the dogs into becoming your body guards and had them follow you everywhere you went. With that advantage all the manipulation began. In training the dogs you were using tactics of terrorism. Getting rid of snowball for you was to secure your own power and with snowball gone you were able to get the other animal to be on your side. With many decisions you made like the decision to make the windmill, you made it seem at first like you were against that idea but in actuality you were absolutely for it. You knew that Snowball was more likable and more of a debater and because you couldn’t stand that Snowball was receiving more votes from the animals, you just had to get rid of him in order for you to gain power and take control.
Napoleon you were very wise and clever but your cleverness did not get you far in making the revolution successful, instead your cleverness made the revolution a failure. You and the other pigs spent three month learning how to read and write using old spelling books which belonged to Mr. Jones children (Orwell 23). You knew that Snowball was more likable and more of a debater and because you couldn’t stand that Snowball was receiving more votes from the animals, you just had to get rid of him in order for you to gain power and take control.
Most of the animals weren’t as educated as the pigs and due to that it
was another reason the revolution failed. The other animals were easy to fool
and easy to convince and you saw that as a door to many opportunities. Because
you allowed the other animals to believe that Snowball wasn’t a good leader and
that he was always against them, it cause them to really believe the Snowball
was no good and he was against them from the beginning of the rebellion with
Mr. Jones. You found a way to make the animal think it was okay to interact
with the humans. Another thing that you maliciously was able to do was convince
the animals that it was okay for the pigs to sleep in the farm house because it
was a quiet place for pigs to work and because it was more suited for the
dignity of a leader to live in a house than a mere sty (Orwell 66). You were
able to pass on your manipulation skill to Squealer and you allowed Squealer to
take your filthy lies and spread them to all the other animals. As time
progressed the other animals have noticed a change in your rules but never
really question him. Shortly after the building of the windmill it was destroyed
and the first person you blamed was Snowball and you got all the other animals
to believe you without any proof. I must say you are very convincing but the
way you convince people isn’t the right way. If only the other animals were
wise and educated they would have realize how corrupt you really are and how
corrupt you made Animal Farm out to be. The other animals limit themselves by
not learning how to read and write.
The
change in the commandments was another caused to the failure of the revolution.
It was very clever of you I must admit but it was another way for Animal Farm
to downfall. For example the fourth commandment stated “No animals shall sleep
in a bed” (Orwell 24) then it further changes to “No animal shall sleep in bed
WITH SHEETS” (Orwell 67). Commandment five states “No animal shall drink
alcohol” (Orwell 25) but was then later change to “No animal shall drink
alcohol TO EXCESS” (Orwell 109). Also in
commandment ten it states that “All animals are equal” (Orwell 25) now its “All
animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others” (Orwell 134).
All seven commandments eventually emerge to something different and because the
other animals were unable to read they couldn't do or say much. This shows how
important education is and why we should take advantage of education while it's there.
The
urge to be more human was in full force. Sleeping in the farmhouse, negotiating
with humans, wearing human clothes, playing cards with humans and the walking
on two legs all were a part of the human lifestyle. The saying “four legs good,
two legs bad” suddenly became “four legs good, two legs betters”. I mean, do
you see how much Animal Farm change all because of the corruption of yourself?
You now walks around the farm with a pipe in your mouth and appear in things such as a
black coat, ratcatcher breeches and leather leggings (Orwell 135). You allowed
squealer and the other pigs to walk on their hind legs. Finally Napoleon, you engaged
yourself in meetings with the humans drinking, toasting and cheering with them,
you announced that the name “Animal Farm” has been abolished and is now known as
“The manor Farm” which was the original name of the farm (Orwell 140). How could you let things slip so far away? where is your morals and virtues? It was
also stated that “the creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to
pig and from pig to man again, but already it was impossible to say which was
which (Orwell 141). This shows how much you've change from the beginning of the
revolution to the end, your basically human now, its hard to tell the difference.
The
revolution was a terrible failure all because of the manipulation, lies,
deception, subterfuge and selfish ways of Napoleon. The lack of education for
the other animals and the desire for you to want to live like a human was also a path
to destruction. If only the animals could read and write they could of help
bring a positive outcome to the revolution. Also if the animals were more unify
and if all the animals were able to speak up more and not allow you to
classify them. Giving all circumstances Animal Farm could have been a
successful farm with these few changes.
Sincerely,
Renetta Layne
