Dear Animal Farm,
With great pleasure I commend you for taking a stand against the wrong
doing of Mr. Jones. I also commend you for a successful turn out from the
rebellion but I do not commend you for the failure of the revolution. Everyone
that took part in rebuilding Animal Farm is to blame, but my biggest finger
points towards Napoleon. Napoleon was the key factor to the disgusting failure
of the revolution with all his manipulation, lies, deception, subterfuge and
selfish ways. Instead of becoming a good leader, he became one who contradicts
himself by going against his own words in the beginning to gain human
advantages. Also the change of the commandments and the fact that Napoleon
allowed other animals to remain uneducated was another reason why the
revolution was a failure.
Napoleon you were very wise and clever but your cleverness did not get you far in making the revolution successful, instead your cleverness made the revolution a failure. You and the other pigs spent three month learning how to read and write using old spelling books which belonged to Mr. Jones children (Orwell 23). You took advantage of the other animals like the dogs and caused them to cling to you. You manipulated the dogs into becoming your body guards and had them follow you everywhere you went. With that advantage all the manipulation began. In training the dogs you were using tactics of terrorism. Getting rid of snowball for you was to secure your own power and with snowball gone you were able to get the other animal to be on your side. With many decisions you made like the decision to make the windmill, you made it seem at first like you were against that idea but in actuality you were absolutely for it. You knew that Snowball was more likable and more of a debater and because you couldn’t stand that Snowball was receiving more votes from the animals, you just had to get rid of him in order for you to gain power and take control.

You knew that Snowball was more likable and more of a debater and because you couldn’t stand that Snowball was receiving more votes from the animals, you just had to get rid of him in order for you to gain power and take control.
Most of the animals weren’t as educated as the pigs and due to that it
was another reason the revolution failed. The other animals were easy to fool
and easy to convince and you saw that as a door to many opportunities. Because
you allowed the other animals to believe that Snowball wasn’t a good leader and
that he was always against them, it cause them to really believe the Snowball
was no good and he was against them from the beginning of the rebellion with
Mr. Jones. You found a way to make the animal think it was okay to interact
with the humans. Another thing that you maliciously was able to do was convince
the animals that it was okay for the pigs to sleep in the farm house because it
was a quiet place for pigs to work and because it was more suited for the
dignity of a leader to live in a house than a mere sty (Orwell 66). You were
able to pass on your manipulation skill to Squealer and you allowed Squealer to
take your filthy lies and spread them to all the other animals. As time
progressed the other animals have noticed a change in your rules but never
really question him. Shortly after the building of the windmill it was destroyed
and the first person you blamed was Snowball and you got all the other animals
to believe you without any proof. I must say you are very convincing but the
way you convince people isn’t the right way. If only the other animals were
wise and educated they would have realize how corrupt you really are and how
corrupt you made Animal Farm out to be. The other animals limit themselves by
not learning how to read and write.
The
change in the commandments was another caused to the failure of the revolution.
It was very clever of you I must admit but it was another way for Animal Farm
to downfall. For example the fourth commandment stated “No animals shall sleep
in a bed” (Orwell 24) then it further changes to “No animal shall sleep in bed
WITH SHEETS” (Orwell 67). Commandment five states “No animal shall drink
alcohol” (Orwell 25) but was then later change to “No animal shall drink
alcohol TO EXCESS” (Orwell 109). Also in
commandment ten it states that “All animals are equal” (Orwell 25) now its “All
animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others” (Orwell 134).
All seven commandments eventually emerge to something different and because the
other animals were unable to read they couldn't do or say much. This shows how
important education is and why we should take advantage of education while it's there.
The
urge to be more human was in full force. Sleeping in the farmhouse, negotiating
with humans, wearing human clothes, playing cards with humans and the walking
on two legs all were a part of the human lifestyle. The saying “four legs good,
two legs bad” suddenly became “four legs good, two legs betters”. I mean, do
you see how much Animal Farm change all because of the corruption of yourself?
You now walks around the farm with a pipe in your mouth and appear in things such as a
black coat, ratcatcher breeches and leather leggings (Orwell 135). You allowed
squealer and the other pigs to walk on their hind legs. Finally Napoleon, you engaged
yourself in meetings with the humans drinking, toasting and cheering with them,
you announced that the name “Animal Farm” has been abolished and is now known as
“The manor Farm” which was the original name of the farm (Orwell 140). How could you let things slip so far away? where is your morals and virtues? It was
also stated that “the creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to
pig and from pig to man again, but already it was impossible to say which was
which (Orwell 141). This shows how much you've change from the beginning of the
revolution to the end, your basically human now, its hard to tell the difference.
The
revolution was a terrible failure all because of the manipulation, lies,
deception, subterfuge and selfish ways of Napoleon. The lack of education for
the other animals and the desire for you to want to live like a human was also a path
to destruction. If only the animals could read and write they could of help
bring a positive outcome to the revolution. Also if the animals were more unify
and if all the animals were able to speak up more and not allow you to
classify them. Giving all circumstances Animal Farm could have been a
successful farm with these few changes.
Sincerely,
Renetta Layne

Really good focus on Napoleon Renetta and precise evidence is well supported--this is almost an A paper but you still have two problems--run-ons and missing verb endings: here is one example: "Because you allowed the other animals to believe that Snowball wasn’t a good leader and that he was always against them, it cause them to really believe the Snowball was no good and he was against them from the beginning...:you have two sentences that can't be joined by a comma and cause=causED--that happens in several places. B+
ReplyDeleteHi again Renetta--not sure if you revised again--strong essay but still a few missing "ed"s--seems like you have conquered the run-on problem!
