Citizens of Animal Farm you did a wonderful job at gaining power against Mr. Jones. That took a lot of bravery and hard work. I am very proud of you all for working together as a team. You all fought hard and a great outcome came out of it, which I commend you all for. However, you are all to blame when it comes to the demise of the revolution.
Old Major was very smart and his ideas of independence for Animal Farm led him to writing the five commandments. The main idea of his commandments were, “whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend” and “All animals are equal” (Orwell 24)
  1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
  2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
  3. No animal shall wear clothes.
  4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
  5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
  6. No animal shall kill any other animal.
  7. All animals are equal.
That changed and you all let this happen. In fact the commandments would have done you good if you all had not let Napoleon change them right before your four legs and wings. Once Napoleon called for his nine enormous dogs he stole from Jessie and Bluebell and ran Snowball out of Animal Farm.
. You all let his horrible, deceiving accomplice, Squealer, use large words to persuade you and prove your naivete. Squealer conned you into believing that Snowball was to blame for the windmill's destruction "Comrades, do you know who is responsible for this?do you know the enemy who has come in the night and overthrown our windmill? SNOWBALL!" (Orwell 69.70) . I believe Snowball was the most similar to Old Major. He actually wanted what was best for Animal Farm. Snowball came up with the idea of the windmill in order to give you all less work so why would he be the one to tear it down?
By believing in lies and letting Squealer and Napoleon deceive you all, I blame you for the failure of the revolution. Animals of Animal Farm, next time follow your gut. When you know something doesn’t seem right don’t follow the crowd stand up for yourself. Be as brave as you all were the first time you all worked together to over throw Mr. Jones. Until next time Animal Farm.

  1. Erika--good use of commandments--fine discussion of Squealer--you need to be expanding a little! We can discuss in conference. B+
